Pool Fill-In vs Full Removal in Florida: Cost and the Catch

October 1, 2026 · 5 min read · pool fill in cost

A full pool removal in Central Florida runs $9,500 to $30,000, depending on pool size, deck, and backyard access. A pool fill-in leaves the shell buried in the ground, and that is why we do not offer it. We do full removal only: break out the walls, floor, and deck, haul it all off, backfill in lifts, and compact. Here is the difference, in plain terms, from the crew that does this work out of Apopka.

What a Fill-In Really Leaves Behind

A partial fill-in buries the pool shell under dirt. The shell is a concrete bowl, so it holds water after every rain, and the fill on top settles over time. The yard sinks, stays wet, and the problem is permanent until someone digs the whole thing up and does it right. That is a bad surprise for you, and for the next buyer too.

What Full Pool Removal Costs

Full removal is $9,500 to $30,000. That price includes the demo, haul-off, backfill in lifts, compaction, and the permit. Three things move the number:

  • Pool size. A bigger pool is more concrete to break out and more loads to haul.
  • The deck. A big pool deck adds tonnage, and a deck poured over an older deck is twice the concrete you can see.
  • Backyard access. A wide gate lets the machine in fast. Tight access and fences slow the job down.

How to Pick a Pool Removal Contractor

Searching for pool removal contractors turns up plenty of names. These questions separate the real ones fast:

  • Is it a full removal, or a fill-in? Walk away from a fill-in.
  • Who is pulling the permit? Every pool removal in Orange, Seminole, Volusia, and Lake County needs one.
  • Do they own their machines, and is the owner on site? We own our excavators, dump trucks, and a 30,000 pound main machine, and our own crew runs them.
  • Can they show insurance? We carry $4,000,000 general liability and $2,000,000 workers compensation, and certificates are available before any job.
  • How do they compact the backfill? We backfill in lifts and compact with the 30,000 pound machine.

Pool Fill-In Questions

How much does a pool fill-in cost in Florida?

We do not do partial fill-ins, so we do not quote one. Full removal runs $9,500 to $30,000 depending on pool size, deck, and access, and it includes the permit.

Is a pool fill-in or full removal better?

Full removal. A fill-in leaves a buried shell that holds water and lets the yard sink until someone digs it up. Full removal fixes the yard for good.

Can you build on a filled-in pool?

Not safely over a buried shell. After a full removal, the hole is backfilled in lifts and compacted, so the ground is stable and build-ready.

Do I need a permit to remove a pool in Florida?

Yes. A pool removal permit is required in Orange, Seminole, Volusia, and Lake County. We file it the day you sign.

How long does pool removal take?

The permit is the long part and is running 3 to 6 weeks in Central Florida. Once it is approved, we can get machines on site fast.
