The Apopka Community Redevelopment Agency runs a Demolition Assistance Grant worth up to $20,000, and the owner does not have to put up matching money. It is aimed at blighted or unsafe buildings inside the CRA district, which covers the original city core. Three utilities and a 30 day clock
Apopka will not issue a demolition permit until a Certification of Service Disconnect comes back signed by Duke Energy, Apopka Water Utilities and Lake Apopka Natural Gas. Three separate companies means three separate calendars, so we request all of them the week you hire us. The contractor also has to be registered with the city and carry workers comp that names the City of Apopka, which we keep on file.
Once the permit is issued, the work has to be finished within 30 days and inspected after the demolition is done. That deadline is why we do not pull the permit until the disconnects are signed and our trucks are scheduled. If the building has materials that need an asbestos survey, the Florida DEP notice goes in at least 10 working days before we start.
