Why we keep Eustis concrete loads clean
Every piece of concrete we break in Eustis has one legal destination: the Lake County Central Solid Waste Facility on County Landfill Road in Tavares. The county charges clean concrete at a lower rate per ton than mixed debris. So on a driveway job, our crew loads the concrete by itself and keeps sod, roots, trash and wood out of those trucks. Anything mixed goes in a separate load.
That habit is a big part of how we hold the price at $2 a square foot with a 500 square foot minimum. It also means we ask a few things before we show up: is there wire mesh or rebar in the slab, is there a buried pipe or conduit under it, and is any part of it a city sidewalk or apron at the street. Those answers shape which machine we bring and how we cut the edge.
Roots under the slab and the Eustis tree rule
When we lift an older Eustis driveway, the cause of the cracking is often right there: a root as thick as your arm running under the slab. Owners usually want the tree gone along with the concrete. Eustis does not make that automatic. The city permits protected tree removal only for set reasons, such as a hazard, poor health, a tree within 15 feet of a lived-in home, or a tree that blocks reasonable use of the lot.
If a protected tree does come out, the replacement has to be at least 2 inches thick and 10 feet tall. Our advice is to figure out the tree question before the new driveway is formed, not after. Sometimes the answer is cutting the offending root and adding a root barrier along the new edge, which keeps the tree and protects the new pour.
