Pool Demolition & Excavation
in Mount Dora, FL

Mount Dora does not publish a separate pool removal checklist. A pool comes out under the city's demolition permit, filed online with Demolition as the work type, and because removals start at $9,500, a recorded Notice of Commencement is part of it. Mintel Land Management handles that filing, breaks out the shell and leaves compacted ground you can use.

How it works

Getting pool demolition & excavation done in Mount Dora

Step 1

File online, record the NOC

We file the Mount Dora demolition permit online with Demolition as the work type, record the Notice of Commencement, and confirm the inspection steps with the Building Division by phone.

Step 2

Drain, break and sort

The pool is drained and broken out. Shell concrete is loaded separately from tile, coping and equipment so the clean concrete goes to Tavares at the lower rate.

Step 3

Backfill and compact

Clean fill goes in lifts, each one compacted before the next, so the old pool area does not sink into a dip after the first few summer storms.

The Mintel Difference

Owner-operated.
Every job.

No renting equipment after the handshake. No cheap subcontracted labor. We own and run our own fleet of machines, so the people who quote your job are the people on the controls.

Pool Demolition & Excavation · Mount Dora

No pool checklist, so the demo permit rules

Some Florida cities hand you a one-page sheet for pool removals. Mount Dora does not, so we treat a pool like any other demolition. The permit goes to the City of Mount Dora Building Division on North Baker Street, filed online with Demolition as the work type. Any job over $5,000 also needs a recorded Notice of Commencement, and a full pool removal here always clears that bar.

Because there is no published pool rule, we call the Building Division before we break ground to confirm what the inspector wants to see, such as a look at the drained and broken shell before backfill. That one call keeps a job from stalling with a hole open in your yard. If asbestos turns up in any structure coming down with the pool, licensed abatement and the Florida DEP notice come first.

Fill-in or full removal on a Mount Dora lot

A fill-in leaves the lower part of the shell in the ground. We punch drain holes through the bottom so water does not collect in it, then backfill with clean material in lifts and compact. A full removal takes the whole shell out, which is the better choice if you may build on that spot later or want no questions from a future buyer. On a tight Mount Dora lot we also plan the truck route across the yard ahead of time, so the work does not tear up more lawn, irrigation or landscaping than it has to.

Either way, the broken concrete leaves on our trucks for the Lake County Central Solid Waste Facility in Tavares. Clean concrete costs less per ton there than mixed debris, so we keep the shell concrete apart from tile, coping and liner scraps. Full removal runs $9,500 to $30,000 with demo, haul-off, backfill, compaction and the permit included.

Mount Dora FAQ

Common questions

Why does my pool removal need a Notice of Commencement?
Mount Dora requires a recorded Notice of Commencement on any permitted job over $5,000, and pool removal starts at $9,500. The notice is recorded with the county and gives anyone who works on the job a clear record of the project. We prepare it and get it recorded before work starts.
Should I fill in the pool or remove it completely if I plan to sell?
If you might sell, a full removal is usually the cleaner answer. There is nothing left buried for an inspector or buyer to ask about, and the spot can be built on later. A fill-in costs less and works if the area will stay lawn or garden. We will tell you honestly which fits your plans.
What happens to the pump, heater and screen enclosure?
We disconnect and haul off the pool equipment, and we can take down the screen enclosure and the deck in the same job if you want them gone. Tell us on the walkthrough what stays and what goes, so the quote covers everything and nothing gets left behind on the side of the house.
What does pool demolition & excavation cost in Mount Dora?
A fill-in is faster and cheaper; a full removal excavates the whole shell, backfills with clean material, and compacts it so you can build or sell over it. We do both and will tell you which fits. Every property is different, so the only honest number is one we give you after walking the site. Call 407-443-2863 for a free, no-obligation estimate in Mount Dora.
